D2 Remove Gems From Sockets
Using the Horadric Cube, any socketed item + a Hel Rune + Scroll of Town Portal = All sockets cleared. There is no recipe to destroy the socketed item and recover the gem/runes. Are you sure you used a 'White' body armor with only two slots? You can not insert Runewords into Magic/Rare/Set/Unique quality items. Removing gems from sockets without destroying them? Map Recipes[edit]
Using the Horadric Cube you can imbue maps using orbs that are sold by Anya in Act V (found under the MISC tab). The orbs are as follows:
- Zakarum Orb (white map into rare map)
- Angelic Orb (blue map into rare map)
- Horadrim Orb (reroll yellow map)
- Orb of Destruction (purge/reset a map)
Please note:
- In order to open a map, a player: must be level 75 and have rescued Anya (although you do not have to have killed Nilathak) on hell difficulty.
- To open a portal to your map go to Harrogath in Hell mode and right click it. Be aware that the map will spawn where you're standing.
Using the Horadric Cube you can imbue maps with the Standard of Heros (Adds 10% Experience, 20% Monster Density and 20% Magic and Goldfind)

Stacking and Unstacking Items[edit]
Place an item (rune or flawless/pgem) into the cube by itself to turn it into a stackable version of the item. Stackable item version has white plus (+) sign on top right corner of the icon.
Transmute again to turn it back into a single item.
Transmute stack with quantity more then 1 to receive single item off the stack and the the stack with quantity lowered by 1.
Stackable items can be stacked by placing them on top of one another (like TPs and TP tomes).
Stacked items can be unstacked by transmuting them in the cube again.

Transmuting runes[edit]
Rune recipes are a little changed - now require adding a key.
Upgrading lower and medium runes to higher quality rune (for vanilla recipes requiring 3 runes -> up to upgrading LEM runes into PUL):
- 3 runes (unstacked or stack of 3) + key = 1 better quality rune, for example: 3 x THUL + key = 1 AMN. No gem required anymore.
Upgrading medium/higher runes to higher quality rune (for vanilla recipes requiring 2 runes -> upgrading from PUL runes and higher):
- 2 medium/high runes of the same type, stacked or unstacked + 1 key = 1 higher quality rune. Example: 2 Pul + 1 key = 1 Um rune.
Transmuting Flawless gems into Perfect Gems[edit]
To transmute Flawless Gems into Perfect ones just only requires a stack of your desired Gem (with a minimum quantity of 3) and a stack of keys (with a minimum quantity of 1)
Example:
Rerolling stats (prefix/affix) on magic item[edit]
Magic item + 3 same or random Perfect Gems = Magic item with new random prefix and/or affix
For example - rerolling a Grand Charm:
Grand Charm + 3 same or random Perfect Gems = Grand charm with new prefix and/or affix (possibly a Skiller Grand Charm if it has Item Level ≥ 50)
As you can see, you can use stacks of Runes, Gems or Keys for your Horadric Cube recipes. The Cube will detect and subtract the correct quantity for each stack introduced in it. The amount of unities subtracted will always depend of the recipe used and the syntax applied. (i.e. While rerolling a Grand Charm you can even use two stacks of random P. Gems if at least one of them has a Quantity ≥ 2.):
Upgrading Sets[edit]
You now have the ability to upgrade Set weapon and armor bases to their exceptional and elite versions. (i.e. Arctic Furs Quilted Armor can be upgraded to be a Ghost Armor, increasing the base defense value from [8 - 11] to [102 - 117])
The recipes used for upgrading sets are the same as the Unique counterparts and are as follows:
1 Ral Rune + 1 Sol Rune + 1 Perfect Emerald + Normal Set Weapon = Exceptional Version of Weapon
1 Tal Rune + 1 Shael Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond + Normal Set Armor = Exceptional Version of Armor
1 Lum Rune + 1 Pul Rune + 1 Perfect Emerald + Exceptional Set Weapon = Elite Version of Weapon
1 Ko Rune + 1 Lem Rune + 1 Perfect Diamond + Exceptional Set Armor = Elite Version of Armor
Upgrading Rare/Crafted Items[edit]
You have the ability to upgrade Rare and Crafted item bases without changing their stats as well.
The recipes used for upgrading Crafted items are the same as the Rare counterparts and are as follows:
1 Ort Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Sapphire + Normal (Basic) Rare Weapon = Exceptional Rare Weapon
1 Ral Rune + 1 Thul Rune + 1 Perfect Amethyst + Normal (Basic) Rare Armor = Exceptional Rare Armor
1 Fal Rune + 1 Um Rune + 1 Perfect Sapphire + Exceptional Rare Weapon = Elite Rare Weapon
1 Ko Rune + 1 Pul Rune + 1 Perfect Amethyst + Exceptional Rare Armor = Elite Rare Armor
Crafting[edit]
Crafting in PD2 is not base specific, but rather item-type specific. For example, a caster belt can be made with ANY belt and a blood weapon can be made with ANY weapon. (circlets are an exception, and cannot be crafted with)
Crafting ethereal items will now keep the item ethereal so you can craft Ethereal berserk axes, warpikes etc.
You can now upgrade crafted items! (uses the same recipes as rare items)

Warning: This will destroy any gems, runes, or jewels you have socketed. This is useful if you are not happy with the gems you have socketed and want to socket the item in another way. This will not effect the number of sockets.

Repair Changes[edit]
Gems are no longer required for repair and recharge recipes:
1 Ort Rune + Weapon = Fully repaired and recharged weapon (doesn't work with ethereal items)
1 Ral Rune + Armor = Fully repaired and recharged armor. Any sort of armor, including helms, boots, belts, gloves and shields, not just body armor. (doesn't work with ethereal items)
You can now repair ethereal items:
1 Zod Rune + 1 Perfect Skull + Item = Fully repaired item (even ethereal)
