Alternative to FontBook & Character Map—FontBase. Because I don’t find the FontBook (Mac) and the Character Map (PC) to be all that user-friendly, I went searching for a desktop app that would make using glyphs easier. I found FontBase, which works really well for accessing glyphsfor $3 a month. It’s definitely an option if you’re. Unfortunately, the Mac computer doesn’t have an easy way to view the Character Map. You can reach the Character Map on a Mac by pressing Command + Option + T. Then you can browse through your fonts to find special characters or glyphs. There is another option, but it’s not free. There is an app called Ultra Character Map in the Apple Store.

Phonetic Fonts for Unicode
The following Unicode fonts include a comprehensive set of phonetic characters and are free for academic use.

Unicode Numeric Entity Codes
If you cannot use a Unicode phonetics input utilitiy or keyboard, then you can substitute numeric
entity codes instead. For example:
- upside down R – ɹ(ɹ)
- upside down capital R – ʁ(ʁ)
- retroflex t (t-dot) – ṭ(ṭ)

Specifying Phonetic Font Styles
Although it is generally not recommended to specify fonts for a language,
it may a good option to make display consistent across browsers.

Nice app! Just some possible enhancements: Search box should work for other stuff, like a letter and search the next match on enter. Dark theme button don't need to be visible always, the textbox below is not editable, control alignment is poor :/
